Jagdalpur: Congress Protests Incomplete Nayapara Road, Warns PWD Gherao

Congress staged a chakkajam in Jagdalpur's Motilal Nehru Ward over the incomplete and dilapidated Nayapara road. Leaders warned of a PWD office gherao if construction is not expedited before Bastar Dussehra.

JAGDALPUR: Intensifying their protest against civic apathy, the Congress party on Tuesday staged a chakkajam (road blockade) in the Motilal Nehru Ward of Nayapara over an incomplete and dilapidated road. Led by Bastar District Congress Committee City President Sushil Mourya, party officials and local residents marched from Hata Ground to the District Court, demanding the immediate completion of the road construction, followed by submitting a memorandum to the Public Works Department (PWD).

6 Months of Delays and Public Woes

Sushil Mourya alleged that the road construction began around six months ago but remains unfinished. With gravel scattered everywhere and incomplete tarring, fast-moving vehicles pose a constant hazard to pedestrians. Locals, shopkeepers, students, and senior citizens are suffering daily due to severe dust pollution. Leaders emphasized that with the monsoon ending, the primary pending work of asphalt laying is being neglected.

Political Slashes and Bastar Dussehra Concerns

Targeting the ruling party over 'triple-engine government' claims, Mourya criticized local representatives including MP Mahesh Kashyap, MLA Kiran Dev, Mayor Sanjay Pandey, and the local ward councillor for their alleged indifference. Congress leaders warned that with the upcoming Bastar Dussehra bringing numerous tourists and devotees to Jagdalpur, the damaged road will severely impact traffic and the city's image.

Ultimatum to PWD

Former MLA Rekhchand Jain termed the BJP's development claims as restricted to paper, demanding an immediate quality check and completion of the road. Municipal Corporation Leader of Opposition Rajesh Chaudhary reiterated that Congress will continue to fight for public issues. The party issued a stern warning that failure to resume quality construction promptly will lead to a massive gherao of the PWD office alongside ward residents.
